Abstract:The Customized Learning Experience Online (CLEO) Lab is a one-year research collaboration between corporations interested in e-learning, academic researchers and the U.S. Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL). Founded by Cisco Systems, Click2Learn, IBM Mindspan Solutions, Microsoft and NETg, the CLEO Lab goal is to conduct focused, applied research on technical and pedagogical issues related to the ADL Sharable Content Reference Model (SCORM), an important compilation of e-learning interoperability specifications. CLEO Lab research will suggest improvements to the ADL SCORM to enable a rich set of learning experiences built upon a foundation of interoperable content. To accelerate progress, the project will fund research by leading academics from Carnegie Mellon University and the Open University, U.K. The CLEO Lab is organized as a program of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO) which will manage the day-to-day activities of the project. Commentary:CLEO deliverables were due December 2001. |
