Use of MLEs at Partner
Institutions
South Bank University:
- WebCT – used to support health courses and some business courses.
A trial area for LITC has been set up (Angel Support). See: http://www.lisa.sbu.ac.uk/oscarr/2nd_level/learn/webct.htm.
- Blackboard – no concrete use at yet, but some staff members
are ‘experimenting’ and future use is expected.
- FirstClass – used by the Faculty of Health. See: http://www.health-fc.sbu.ac.uk/
- Lotus Domino – used by the SCISM department, with a focus on
content management. Controlled through a unit guide, http://edtech.sbu.ac.uk/units/catalog/catalog03.nsf/$All?OpenView&CollapseView
All course material password protected.
DeMontfort University:
- BSCW (Basic Support for Cooperative Work) - about collaboration
and shared workspace over the internet. Would not fit our model of an
MLE.
- campusnet - more of a student portal than a learning environment.
Edinburgh University:
For information about MLEs at Edinburgh see:
- WebCT - used by several different subject areas, see:
- Blackboard - mentioned in interviews but no evidence of official
use in university.
- IVLE (National University of Singapore) - see:
- Sqweems, Edinburgh student portal - Still under development
- COSE - mentioned in interviews but no evidence of actual use
within the University.
London School of Economics:
- WebCT - used by Anthropology, Economic History, Government,
International Relations, law, and Sociology courses. See:
Sheffield Hallam University:
See The Sheffield Hallam "Virtual campus": http://www.shu.ac.uk/virtual_campus/
- TopClass - used for Sport and Leisure Management, Science and
Maths, and Environment and Development. See:
- Blackboard - recently acquired.
- FirstClass - being used for e-mail and conferencing by a variety
of departments, see:
